Located on the northeastern shoulder of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, North Baldwin County is an outdoor recreation and ecotourism Mecca. Here fishermen can launch from multiple river and delta landings located north of Interstate 10. The Mobile-Tensaw Delta is the second-largest river delta in the U.S., second only to the Mississippi River Delta in size, and a prime location to see an abundance of wildlife and enjoy Bartram Canoe Trail, which is more than 200 miles long. Designated routes wind through the Delta along a series of interconnected waterways, which makes for a great ecotourism experience.

The Delta is an environmental showplace that is 45 miles long and 16 miles wide, and encompasses about 300 square miles just north of Mobile Bay. The region features numerous interconnected stream systems, floodplains, swamps, bayous, lakes and forests, and it is home to an abundance of species of flora and fauna, including 500 plants, 300 birds, 126 fishes, 46 mammals, 69 reptiles and 30 amphibians. Ecosystems vary among 20,000 acres of open water; 10,000 acres of mars; more than 70,000 acres of swamp; and more than 85,000 acres of bottomland forest. As a result of restoration and conservation efforts by a combination of federal, state and private citizens, 185,500 contiguous acres of federal and state property are now preserved in the delta. In 1974, Congress declared the Mobile-Tensaw Delta a National Natural Landmark. Fewer than 600 sites have received that honor.
