Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) is Northern Arizona’s only regional referral center, caring for more than 85,000 patients each year. Throughout 2011, FMC will be celebrating 75 years of providing quality healthcare to the visitors and residents of northern Arizona. Dr. Charles and Ethel Sechrist founded the 25-bed Flagstaff Hospital in 1936, at the top of Knob Hill on Beaver Street. In 1955, the Sechrist family donated the hospital to the community.

Today, FMC is a not-for-profit hospital that has grown to more than 270 patient beds. With an active medical staff of more than 200 physicians representing nearly 40 specialties and a staff of almost 2,000 employees, FMC provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services.

- As the region's only Level I Trauma Center, FMC treats close to 1,500 trauma patients and another 2,500 accident and injury victims each year. The Trauma Center helps ensure patients in northern Arizona have access to life-saving care during the “golden hour” that follows a trauma, when immediate care could mean the difference between life and death.

- The Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona is a joint effort between FMC and Verde Valley Medical Center to ensure a comprehensive, regional approach to exceptional cardiovascular services is available in northern and central Arizona. Services include diagnostic, interventional and surgical treatment options for cardiovascular conditions and cardiac rehabilitation. The surgical program includes the cutting-edge “beating-heart” or off-pump bypass surgery, as well as non-invasive procedures for patients with atrial fibrillation, the most common heart rhythm disorder.

- The Spine and Joint Surgery Center at FMC offers a unique approach to those patients who require total joint replacement or spine surgery. At FMC, joint surgery patients are not viewed as ill, but rather as healthy individuals, who through this program, can get back to the lifestyle they enjoy. The program focuses on providing exceptional care and patient education.

- FMC’s Bariatric Surgical Weight Loss Center is a comprehensive program that provides not only weight-loss surgery, but also patient education and support for obese patients choosing a surgical solution. FMC has been designated a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. This designation acknowledges the excellence of FMCs surgical weight loss program and the surgeons who are dedicated to providing high-quality care and services. FMC is the only hospital north of Phoenix offering the weight loss surgery.

- The Cancer Center of Northern Arizona uses a multi-disciplinary team designed to ensure the cancer patient’s treatment is individualized, comprehensive and coordinated. The Cancer Center offers radiation and medical oncologists, physicists, radiation therapists, certified oncology nurses, social workers and dietitians. The Breast Cancer Resource Center provides education, resources and support services for women undergoing treatment and their families.

- Additional services include the Women and Infants’ Center, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and adjoining Pediatric Unit, state-of-the-art Imaging Services and a full array of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services.
