Business Services and Industry

Although the population of the city limits is 45,303, the city serves a commercial market of more than 110,000 people. The region’s main industry is national defense, with many of the larger defense contracting companies maintaining a significant presence in Sierra Vista.

Thanks to Fort Huachuca, which is annexed to the City of Sierra Vista, the area has grown steadily and now offers many of the businesses, restaurants, hotels and retailers found in larger communities. Large retail chains include Wal-Mart Supercenter, Home Depot and Lowe’s, while The Mall at Sierra Vista boasts more than 50 stores under one roof, as well as a food court and movie theater complex.

Major restaurant chains include Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili’s, IHOP, Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse, which are complemented by locally owned and run eateries serving everything from home-cooked food to gourmet pizzas.

While Sierra Vista has not been immune to the downturn in the economy, small businesses still continue to open their doors, providing area residents with more opportunities to shop locally.

In December 2013, the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art, 100-bed hospital. This major three-year project will bring a very welcomed boost to the economy, as well as providing new jobs and world-class healthcare for many years to come.
