According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2009-2011 American Community Survey, 91.3 percent of Sierra Vista’s population aged 25 years and older has at least a high school diploma or equivalent, which is above countywide, statewide and national levels. An estimated 29.8 percent of Sierra Vista residents hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, which is also higher than county, state and nationwide levels.

Sierra Vista Unified School District consists of one high school, one middle school and six elementary schools. The district’s total enrollment as of October 1, 2011, was 5,562, down 5.8 percent from the year prior. In 2012, voters approved membership of the district’s Buena High School in the Cochise Joint Technical education District (JTED), which means additional state funding for career and technical education.

Sierra Vista is also home to five charter schools, which have had a combined enrollment of 1,457 students in 2011-2012. Chamber member charter schools are listed in the Membership Directory.

Fort Huachuca Accommodation Schools consists of one middle and two elementary schools located on post. They are Arizona public schools that fall under the Arizona Department of Education and so enrollment is not limited to military personnel or those associated with the fort. Post-secondary educational opportunities are provided by Cochise College, University of Arizona Sierra Vista, University of Phoenix, Wayland Baptist University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Cochise College is a two-year community college with campuses in Sierra Vista and Douglas, and learning centers in Benson, Willcox and Fort Huachuca. Classes are also offered in Bisbee and online. UA Sierra Vista offers upper-division courses for students to complete undergraduate degree programs in cooperation with Cochise College and other Arizona community colleges. University of Phoenix offers online education on a flexible schedule. Wayland Baptist University has campus locations in Sierra Vista and on Fort Huachuca, catering to working adults to include military, border patrol and other government employees. It offers a range of undergraduate degree programs. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Fort Huachuca offers undergraduate degree programs in areas such as aviation business administration, aviation maintenance and professional aeronautics.

Horizon Health Care Institute is licensed by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education to operate as a private, non-accredited vocational school.

Horizon Health Care Institute is approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing to conduct a nursing assistant training program and by the Arizona Department of Health Services to conduct a caregiver training program. A range of other training programs are also offered.
