graphicTucson revels in its 360 days of sunshine each year. Year-round outdoor activities are an integral part of the local lifestyle. Home to dozens of golf courses, both public and private, Tucson is host to two major tournaments on the PGA and LPGA tours. The city welcomes Spring training for three Major League baseball teams.

Surrounded by five mountain ranges, Tucsonans enjoy fabulous hiking, camping, and picnicking. The 9,000+ foot Santa Catalina mountain range gives close-by relief from summer warmth and also boasts Ski Valley, the southernmost ski facility in the United States.

After enjoying the ponderosa pine forest, Tucsonans can return to the valley to walk through forests of the most recognizable cacti in the world. The giant saguaro, pronounced "sah-WAH-ro," is found only in the Sonoran desert. It is 75 years old before it grows its first "arm," and lives for over 200 years.

Over 2, 500,000 people visit Saguaro National Park every year. The Tucson Botanical Garden, Tohono Chul Park, and the world famous Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum all present exhibits and programs to educate visitors and newcomers about Tucson’s varied flora and fauna.

graphicLooking to the Tucson’s clear skies is also another favorite activity at any time of the day. Tucson is in the middle of the north/south corridor of many exotic bird species. The Tucson Audubon Society, with the help of numerous volunteers, recently identified over 120 species in the metropolitan region. And it’s also no wonder that Arizona’s crystalline skies have drawn professional and amateur astronomers from all over the world. Nearby is Kitt Peak National Observatory, the world’s largest collection of optical telescopes, and on the UA campus, Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium provides educational programs and free public telescope usage for stargazers.
