graphicTucson’s citizens have their pick of some of the best medical care facilities in the country. The University Medical Center is nationally renowned for its Arizona Cancer Center and Sarver Heart Center.

It is also the only comprehensive transplantation center in the Southwest, covering heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and bone marrow transplantation.

Tucson Medical Center serves more than 30,000 in-patients and 122,000 outpatients yearly and is also home to a Level One Trauma Center. More than 1,000 physicians representing 60 specialties practice at TMC. It is home to the Tucson Orthopaedic Institute, the Cancer Care Center of Southern Arizona, and the Children’s Clinics for Rehabilitative Services.

graphicNorthwest Medical Center ranks second in the state as the most effective provider of time-efficient treatment of acute heart attack patients. It also boasts the Women’s Center, Arizona’s first freestanding, self-contained hospital dedicated solely to the medical needs of women.

Kino Community Hospital, on the city’s southside, is a primary educational site for the University of Arizona’s Internal Medicine Residency. Another choice for Tucson citizens is El Dorado Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility located on the eastside. The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System is comprised of a 302-bed teaching hospital in Tucson, Arizona, and five Community Based Outreach Clinics, and provides care for local veterans.

A large number of long-time Tucson residents were born in St. Mary’s Hospital on the westside, now a 393-bed facility. It hosts Southern Arizona’s only Burn and Wound Care Program. Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital on the eastside of town is a 285-bed facility and was recently named one of the country’s top regional hospitals.

Finally, El Rio Health Center is an independent, community-based primary health care center devoted to providing medical care to underserved populations. Through their diverse programs, El Rio reaches 60,000 patients.
