On behalf of the citizens of Camden and Ouachita County, we want to invite you to enjoy the many things we have to offer visitors and residents of our community. After all, we weren’t dubbed “Where History Lives!” for nothing!
Two historical museums are located in Camden, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Camden Area Chamber of Commerce offices and Main Street Camden are located in the historic Missouri-Pacific Depot, built in 1913. The depot houses a mini-museum containing railroad and Civil War memorabilia as well as Grapette and Camark Pottery, both of which were manufactured in Camden. The McCollum-Chidester House was home to both the Union and Confederate Armies and houses original furnishings.
Recreational activities abound on the scenic Ouachita River, with three state parks only minutes away. Hunting for deer, squirrel, turkey and other game birds is abundant in the majestic pine forests surrounding Camden and Ouachita County. A public swimming pool, a public and private golf course and numerous tennis courts and parks are for the enjoyment of our visitors and residents. Scenic Byway 7 runs through Camden and is flanked by murals touting the rich history of the area.
