Arts and Entertainment in Agoura Hills 

The City of Agoura Hills is known as “The Gateway to the Santa Monica National Recreation Area.” This area is a cooperative effort joining federal, state and local park agencies with private preserves and landowners to save from harm all natural and cultural resources within the Santa Monica mountain range and seashore.

Agoura Hills is close enough to enjoy all of the professional sports that the Los Angeles area has to offer. This includes the Dodgers from MLB, the Lakers and Clippers from the NBA, and the Kings from the NHL.

Plenty of other diversions can be found in the form of movie theaters and bowling alleys throughout the area. Or, if you prefer live theater and music, try the Performing Arts Center in Oxnard, the Pepperdine University Center for the Arts, or live theater productions right here in Agoura Hills.

The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is nearby, and is the only performing arts center of its size between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It provides outstanding cultural and educational entertainment opportunities, and consists of the 1,800-seat Fred Kavli Theatre for the Performing Arts, the 400-seat Janet and Ray Scherr Forum, a spacious five-acre park and City Hall.

Mission Statement
The Agoura Hills Department of Community Services takes a leadership role in improving the quality of life for the community through diverse recreational opportunities that promote families and individuals, community involvement and a desire to preserve the natural and cultural resources of Agoura Hills.

The Department of Community Services maintains and operates six public parks, the Recreation Center, three reservable ball fields, the Equestrian Center and the Reyes Adobe historical landmark.

The Recreation Division provides a comprehensive community service program which features recreation activities, transportation programs, special events, senior programs, teen programs, old-fashioned birthday parties, sports, day camps, and excursions. Additionally, the Community Services Department administers the City’s cultural, transportation/safety programs, Dial-A-Ride, the Community Concert Band, city beautification projects, Telephone Hiring exchange, beach bus and a volunteer program.

Agoura Hills Recreation Center
The Recreation Center is located at 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Agoura Hills. The Center is an 1800-square foot multipurpose room, which features a sound system, kitchenette, restroom facilities, outside patio area, tables, chairs, podium and piano. This facility is reservable by nonprofit and private groups for meetings, business functions, birthday parties, receptions, seminars and conferences: Available hours for rental: Monday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., when recreational activities are not scheduled. For free information and reservations, call the Agoura Hills Recreation Center at 818-597-7361, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Library/Civic Center Project
The library will be more than 17,000 square feet and a premiere destination place for all Agoura Hills residents. The Craftsman-style building will be the host of many current library programs as well as new activities and features, expanded for various age groups. The new library will feature a separate children’s area, study rooms, a book shop, multi-purpose room, a “main street,” and a bank of Internet-ready computers.

In addition to the library, the building will also house a separate city hall, council chambers and a multi-purpose room.

The Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center offers a variety of recreational, social, cultural and educational programs and activities to meet the needs of surrounding communities. Volunteers from throughout the region contribute their time and expertise to help a professional recreational staff shape the programs offered at the Community Center. There is something for every age group.

Some of the services and programs offered include recreation classes, child watch (for use while visiting the Community Center), facility rental, lunch services and catering, teen after-school program, fitness facilities, and personal trainers.
