Healthcare

Antelope Valley residents are well-served by a directory of exceptional healthcare resources, ranging from advanced hospitals to private medical practices.

Part of the Antelope Valley Healthcare District, Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) is a leading medical resource for residents in the region. The 420-bed, not-for-profit, acute care medical facility has been a part of the community since its opening more than five decades ago. The hospital presents a full range of services and programs, and is well-known for its excellence in the Maternal Child Health Department and for its medical/surgical and outpatient surgery services. It is recognized as the region’s only full-service hospital and offers the sole Obstetrical Services Department and Level II Trauma Center in the area. In 2010, AVH earned recognition from the Association of California Healthcare Districts as the Most Innovative Healthcare District for its “commitment to improving the standards of care for the community through leadership, achievement and innovation,” according to the AVH website.

In late-May 2011, UnitedHealth Group invested $8.6 million in the hospital, which will result in expanded and improved healthcare services and facilities. These funds will go towards the construction of a new Cardiac Cath Lab Center, the expansion of MRI and CT services, the renovation of the Outpatient Blood Draw Center and seismic improvements.

The newest hospital to hit the Antelope Valley is the Palmdale Regional Medical Center. The hospital recently opened its doors with 121 licensed beds – a number that will increase to 239 beds upon completion of the hospital build-out. The modern campus features single all-private rooms, the largest emergency department in the area with 35 beds and centers of excellence in the Cardiology and STEMI Receiving Center, emergency medicine, surgery, outpatient rehabilitation, transfusion-free medicine, othopedics, bariatrics and the Center for Wound Care (an off-campus program). The medical center grounds house a 60,000-square-foot Medical Office Building, as well.

All of these resources come together to ensure the health and well-being of Antelope Valley residents at all stages in life.
