Location and Transportation

Fremont’s central location on the east side of the San Francisco Bay offers easy access in all directions via Interstates 880 and 680 and Highway 101, and is in close proximity to San Francisco. Breathtaking beaches, the Livermore Valley and Napa Valley wineries are all short rides. Skiing, as well as year-round water and outdoor sports in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe can be reached in less than four hours.

Bay Area Rapid Transit provides quick rail transportation to major cities in the Bay Area. Public bus service is provided by Alameda/Contra Costa Transit District and commuter service to San Mateo County and Santa Clara County is available. Fremont is also served by commuter and passenger trains. The Altamont Commuter Express begins its route in Stockton and ends in San Jose, with three stops in Fremont in the morning and three stops in the evening. The Amtrak Capital Corridor train goes from Auburn to San Jose with several stops in Fremont throughout the day. Both trains use the station in Centerville, home of the Depot Café.

Fremont is served by San Jose International Airport, 10 miles south on I-880; Oakland International Airport, 20 miles north on I-880; and San Francisco International Airport, 25 miles northwest via Highways 84 and 101. Additionally, the nearby Port of Oakland offers efficient shipping to accommodate manufacturing needs. More than 50 commercial common trucking carriers and 250 radial carriers are active in the region, with overnight delivery service available throughout California, Nevada and southern Oregon.
