Best of the West:
An Economic Home Run for Palmdale

You’ve probably seen them at Palmdale restaurants or at the AV Mall: groups of uniformed softball players with their teammates and parents enjoying an after game meal or doing some shopping to unwind.

They’re here because one of Southern California’s premier softball complexes – the Best of the West (BOTW) in Palmdale – attracts them by the thousands.

The BOTW Softball Complex is one of the city’s busiest facilities. In 2015 alone there were 11 two-day tournaments and nine one-day tournaments bringing 50 to 70 teams from throughout Southern California and the Western states to Palmdale.

Besides the tournaments, BOTW’s eight fields are used locally year round – day and night – for adult and youth softball, men’s slow pitch, baseball, coed softball and T-ball.

The BOTW Softball Complex features eight world-class, year-round softball fields, four 315’ fenced fields with lighting, four 210’ fenced fields with lighting, including covered stadium seating (championship field), bullpens, covered dugouts, vendor/snack bar areas and full restroom facilities. It also provides 20 acres of parking, as well as room for oversized RV parking. To learn more about BOTW, please call (661) 267-5611 or email parksrec@cityofpalmdale.org.

The Antelope Valley's ONLY Water Park

Located at 3850 E. Ave. S, DryTown Water Park keeps you cool and entertained through a variety of water fun options.

Open Memorial Day weekend through the second week of September, DryTown’s central feature is a 35-foot tower with three waterslides and splashdown pool.

Younger visitors will enjoy Little Miners Camp, a 6,000-square-foot children’s water playground that includes a 50-gallon vortex splash bucket, three water rings, two water cannons, fountains, slides and a shallow splash pool. Parents may join them or relax in comfortable lounge chairs nearby.

A DryTown favorite for all ages is Big Rock River, a 925-foot-long, 3.5-foot-deep, slow-moving stream that winds its way throughout DryTown. Tubes are available free of charge to make a relaxing float even more relaxing.

The park’s newest attraction is Dusty’s Mineshaft Racer. Using specially designed mats, the four-lane racer launches riders headfirst into a thrilling 360 degree turn in an enclosed tube, before plunging 40 feet down open-air lanes for a downhill dash to the finish line and a serious drenching.

A gift shop is onsite, Subway operates Dusty’s Grill and a variety of snack foods are available at carts throughout the park.

Tickets are available online at www.drytownwaterpark.com, or at DryTown Water Park Town Hall.
