Education

Producing lifelong learners and leaders is an important goal of Patterson and Westley’s rich educational community. Opportunities for high quality education are widespread in the area. Many parents begin their children’s learning career early at one of several local childcare centers and preschools. When it comes time for primary and secondary education, families take advantage of several private and parochial institutions in Patterson, or choose to enroll students through the Patterson Unified School District.

PUSD (which also offers preschool programs at five sites in the area) currently serves approximately 5,800 preK-12 students in nine schools, including one comprehensive high school, one alternative high school, one 6-8 middle school, one K-8 facility, one K-6 charter school and four K-5 elementary schools. The district’s rigorous curriculum is designed to supply students with foundational skills in core academic areas, with emphasis on critical thinking and oral and written expression. In addition to the fundamental instruction provided, PUSD offers gifted and talented education, English Language Learners (ELL) support and Advanced Placement and honors courses.
