Government

graphicThe City of Pico Rivera operates under a Council/Manager form of government. The five- member City Council acts as the City’s chief policy-making body. Every two years, council members are elected at large to serve four-year, overlapping terms. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves a one-year term.

The City Manager is appointed by the City Council. The City Manager ensures that the City’s policies are implemented and supervises the City’s 600 full and part-time employees through various department heads.

Advisory boards, comprising of community members appointed by the Council, provide guidance in determining how to meet the City’s needs. These boards include the Planning Commission and the Community Resources Advisory Commission.

Pico Rivera is a contract city, served by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement and public safety, the Los Angeles County Fire Department for fire protection and paramedic emergency services, and the Los Angeles County Library System for two community libraries.
