Hueneme Elementary School District is one of 20 school districts in Ventura County. It is governed by an elected school board; its superintendent is Robert Fraisse. The District is nationally recognized for its "smart" classrooms, with Hueneme students having a higher graduation rate than county and state.
In Port Hueneme and the rest of California, the support of education is the key to the continued growth of the work force. California has taken decisive steps over the past ten years to enhance public education. Programs emphasize critical and creative thinking skills, and many schools are equipped with the latest technology and offer extensive computer training, necessary in todays business world.
There are eleven schools in the district, located in both Port Hueneme and Oxnard: Charles Blackstock and E.O. Green Jr. High, winners of the Blue Ribbon award, the highest federal honor bestowed on public schools; Richard Bard School, Hollywood Beach School, Art Haycox School, Hueneme School, Julien Hathaway School, Ansgar Larsen School, Parkview School, Fred Williams School and Sunkist Elementary School. The Hueneme School District office is located in Port Hueneme at 250 N. Ventura Rd.
There are five high schools in the Oxnard Union High School District, not including Frontier Continuation School, Oxnard Adult Education and Pacific View Community Day School.
