Transportation in Sierra Madre

road

Sierra Madre’s three square miles are tucked into the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, just 15 miles from downtown Los Angeles and only minutes from neighboring Arcadia, Pasadena and Monrovia.

Whatever your destination, Sierra Madre boasts easy travel solutions. The community’s proximity to highways, bus systems, and national and international airports makes the city ideally located for commuters and travelers.

The city offers its residents and visitors three convenient transportation programs: the Gateway Coach Community Loop, Dial-A-Ride and Metro Access. Gateway is available to all, while the Dial-A-Ride is available to seniors and people with disabilities. Metro Access is a low-cost,curb-to-curb pickup service for elderly and physically disabled residents who are unable to access Community Loop or Dial-A-Ride.

Two MTA buses supplement the City’s transportation services. MTA buses run from Sierra Madre to nearby communities such as Arcadia, Pasadena, Los Angeles and El Monte. Residents can also connect to MTA’s Gold Line (a lightrail service that runs from Los Angeles to East Pasadena) via shuttle.

With more than eight airports and airfields within a short commute of Sierra Madre, traveling by air is exceptionally easy. The largest airport in the area is the Los Angeles International Airport, more commonly referred to as LAX. Part of the Los Angeles World Airports, LAX is ranked fifth in the world for the number of passengers and tonnage of air cargo handled.

Other airports in the Los Angeles World Airports system include Ontario International Airport (with commercial jet service to major U.S. cities and service to international destinations), Van Nuys Airport (ranked as the world’s busiest general aviation airport) and Palmdale Regional—which handles up to 300,000 passengers a year.

Sierra Madre is also approximately 21 miles from the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, about 25 miles from Daugherty Field in Long Beach, 27 miles from the Los Alamitos Airport, 21 miles from Brackett Field in Laverne, 22 miles from Fullerton Municipal and just six miles from El Monte Airport.
