The Mission Statement of Mesa County School District 51 is "To lead all students to reach their individual potential by rigorously pursuing and evaluating achievement of high academic and ethical standards in a disciplined, nurturing environment." The Districts Strategic Plan Goals for 1998-2001 are stated:
Improve the individual achievement and overall performance of all students in the core subjects.
Develop and implement a plan to better use time to improve student learning.
Connect education to the future.
Promote two-way communication within the District and throughout the community with all staff, students, parents and community members.
Ensure a standards-based education through the use of content standards, performance levels and performance assessments.
Children in the Palisade area attend Taylor Elementary School, K-5th grade, enrollment of 481; Mt. Garfield Middle School, 6-8th grades, enrollment of 646; and Palisade High School, grades 9-12, enrollment of 964.
In addition to these traditional schools, an excellent technical education school serves the area. A partnership between Mesa State College and School District 51, the Unified Technical Education Campus (UTEC) provides a viable education alternative.
Higher education is available at Mesa State College, located in nearby Grand Junction. The four-year liberal arts college offers a masters program through some departments.
