Brevard County is a mecca of recreation, with its vast bodies of water, beautiful beaches and 300 warm and sunny days throughout the year.

Activities are abundant on the water and the mainland, offering opportunities for both active and passive recreation.

From boating, fishing and top surfing spots to hiking, picnicking and the more than 20 sites for tennis, Brevard County has it all.

Boating & Fishing
Sailboats, yachts, motorboat and pontoon boats fill the waters of Brevard County. The region is equipped with nearly 30 marinas and over 35 boat ramps, allowing easy access into Brevard County’s numerous lakes, the Indian and Banana Rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean.


The area is a fishing hot spot with a great mix of freshwater and saltwater. Top sites include the Melbourne Eau Gallie and Pineda causeways, Mathers Bridge in Merritt Island, Jetty Park in Cocoa Beach, the Canaveral Pier, Lake Poinsett and Lake Washington.

Surfing & Swimming
Brevard’s surrounding bodies of water offer an ideal site for surfers and swimmers, providing clean water that rarely drops below 60°F. The county is home to two annual surfing events – the Eastern Surfing Festival and the National Kidney Foundation Labor Day Surfing Festival. Popular surfing spots along the Space Coast include the Cocoa Beach Pier, PAFB Hangars, Pelican Beach Park, the Indialantic Boardwalk and the Sebastian Inlet. And for those swimmers looking to forego the sandy beaches, a number of recreational facilities, equipped with indoor and outdoor pools, are located around Brevard County.

With such a strong high-technology setting, it’s surprising to find an abundance of preserved, natural settings across Brevard County. The region is a site where temperate and subtropical climates intersect, providing a home to diverse plant and animal life. More than 20 parks are spread along the Space Coast, offering sites for hiking, birdwatching, fishing, picnicking and for viewing several major ecosystems.

Several nature excursions are easily accessible, providing tours through some of Brevard’s most beautiful areas, which are home to manatees, dolphins, alligators and countless other animals and plants. Cocoa Beach Manatee Watch, Cocoa Beach Thousand Islands, Indian River Cruise, Paddlewheel Adventure, Space Coast Nature Tours and Space Coast River Tours are several eco-tours available in Brevard County.
