The Communities of Melbourne Beach, Malabar and Barefoot Bay

Melbourne Beach

Melbourne Beach offers a wonderful mix of recreation and relaxation for its 3,500 residents.

Camping, picnicking, boating, hiking and surfing can be found at Longpoint Park and Sebastian Inlet State Park, while Spessard Holland North and South Beach Parks afford both active and passive opportunities for recreation. Two golf courses are available in Melbourne Beach – the 18-hole, 4,302-yard Aquarina Country Club and the Spessard Holland Golf Course, encompassing 18 holes spanning 5,155 yards for a par of 67.

Hailing as one of the state’s oldest beachfront communities, Melbourne Beach is filled with interesting historical sites. The Ryckman House, the Fraser Estate, the Walter Brown Pink House, the Red Bird House and the Fisherman’s Cottage, among many others, are historic places not to be missed.

A small town gradually reaching 3,000 residents, Malabar is located in the Melbourne-Palm Bay metropolitan area.

The community offers residents a quiet, country-like environment with sizable homes encompassing acreage, as well as large ranches.

The area is also home to the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary, a 345-acre nature preserve on the northern side of the community.

Barefoot Bay

Encompassing a population reaching 10,000, Barefoot Bay is a charming community that lies along the winding Indian River.

Established nearly 40 years ago in 1969, the town spans 1,500 acres in the southern part of Brevard County. Nestled between Vero Beach and Melbourne, Barefoot Bay holds a private beach, trails, three pools, tennis courts and perfect sites for fishing.

The Barefoot Bay Recreation District provides for a number of leisurely activities and entertainment for residents, and it also maintains the Barefoot Bay Golf and Country Club. The 18-hole course boasts 3,688 yards of beautifully manicured greens for a par of 60.

Barefoot Bay’s Community Center is a popular site for residents to mingle, offering an array of activities and local events. The tight-knit family community takes pleasure in its small-town lifestyle, while also having easy access to the county’s big city features.
