Introduction

graphicPROGRESSIVE VISION

Lake Wales is a charming Main Street community with a proud heritage and wonderful quality of life. Employment, business, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities abound in the Lake Wales area. Couple this with affordable housing and you have a community second to none.

The city is located along Florida's geographical ridge, which at 295 feet, boasts the highest elevation in the peninsular portion of the state. This location is enhanced by rolling hills, numerous lakes and lush vegetation.

Our great location and quality of life are attracting new businesses to the area, and our "Progressive Vision" is evident in our economic development efforts such as Long Leaf Business Park, a smart park designed for business and light manufacturing. At the same time, our "vintage charm" has been maintained by the establishment of several historic districts, both residential and commercial. Lake Wales is a small city personified by its "Progressive Vision and Vintage Charm." We invite you to see for yourself.

VINTAGE CHARM

Lake Wales is at the crossroads of Florida, with U.S. Highway 27 reaching from the southern end of the state of Florida's northern state line and State Road 60 crossing the state from east to west, from Vero Beach to Tampa. This ideal location makes travel quick and easy to Tampa, Orlando and other nearby cities and attractions, while encouraging business development and new resident relocation.

graphicThe small-town charm and slower pace of life, coupled with warm fellowship and community pride, make Lake Wales a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. The vitality of the area is reflected in the many cultural and recreational opportunities offered. Lake Wales is unique in its wide variety of cultural institutions, including the Lake Wales Arts Center, the Lake Wales Little Theatre, the Historic Downtown area, the Depot Museum and Bok Tower Gardens. Many events such as the Lake Wales Art Show, the Mardi Gras celebration, the Christmas parade, the annual Pioneer Days celebration and numerous others enhance the cultural atmosphere.

Recreation opportunities include family and individual activities. One can enjoy the solitude of walking or biking around beautiful Lake Wales or working out at the newly renovated City gymnasium. Fishing, boating, water skiing, sailing, golfing and playing tennis can be enjoyed year-round. Nearby Kissimmee State Park offers an unparalleled view into Central Florida's unique eco-system and history. The Ridge area is home to flora and fauna that are found nowhere else in the world.

And, Lake Wales is also home to the Florida Skydiving Center that offers visitors the chance to experience the thrill of a lifetime with a tandem skydive, as well as providing year-round, world-class facilities for experienced skydivers.

Lake Wales is home to public and private schools as well as two colleges. A community college and vocational and technical schools are within easy driving distances. Other classes, from flower arranging to computer training, are offered by the City's Leisure Services Department, the local colleges and schools and private instructors. The public library offers many programs and services to students and citizens.

Whether you are seeking life's simple pleasures, the thrills and challenges of adventure sports, or just plenty of Florida sunshine, visiting or living in Lake Wales will be a memorable and enjoyable experience.
