Education

Educational needs in the Oviedo-Winter Springs area are met by the highly respected Seminole County Public Schools system. Enrolling more than 63,000 students in grades Pre-K through 12, this A-rated public school system is an Academically High-Performing School District, as designated by the Florida Department of Education. This recognition is furthered by SCPS’s top ranking in every academic area for Central Florida school districts and its excellent SAT scores, which continually soar above the state and national averages.

Additionally, all of the district’s high schools have been ranked in the top four percent in the nation by Newsweek magazine based on participation by seniors in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. Quality childcare and early childhood learning centers are available in the area, as are several private school options for parents and students interested in an alternative to public education. The Oviedo-Winter Springs area houses Tuskawilla Montessori Academy, St. Luke’s Lutheran School and The Master’s Academy, while neighboring Chuluota hosts Double R Private School. For many graduating high school seniors and adults looking to enhance their career prospects, Seminole State College is a great option. The Oviedo campus, which opened in January of 2001, now enrolls more than 3,000 students. The excellent academic programs offered through Seminole State lead to the completion of an associate’s degree, career certificate or one of the five new bachelor’s degrees. The college also provides opportunities for continuing education, adult education, small business services and customized workforce training. Just down the street from Seminole State is the main campus of the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. An academic and research leader, UCF—which has been recognized as a Kiplinger’s Personal Finance 50 “Best Value” university, a Forbes Top 100 “Best Buy College,” and a U.S. News & World Report “Top Tier National University” and “School to Watch”—is now the largest university in the state and second-largest university in the nation, with an enrollment exceeding 58,000 students, who are part of more than 216 degree programs. UCF offers bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral degree programs in a variety of career fields.
