Parks and Recreation

Active residents relish in the recreational opportunities available in the Oviedo-Winter Springs area. People of all ages and abilities utilize the programs and facilities of local high-quality park and trail systems.

The city of Oviedo Parks & Recreation Department oversees seven parks, a 30,000-square-foot skate park, a sports complex with a number of ball fields and the modern gymnasium and aquatic facility, which opened in 2004. The city of Winter Springs Parks & Recreation Department manages more than a dozen park sites and facilities in town, including an expanded Senior Center that now houses a therapy pool. Both the Oviedo and Winter Springs Parks & Recreation Departments offer a year-round calendar of programming for adults and youths. Active residents participate in athletic leagues, camps, fitness and dance classes, special events and more.

Seminole County Parks & Recreation also operates park sites in the Oviedo-Winter Springs area. Among these parks is the three-acre Overlook Park along the southern shores of Lake Jesup, the Little Big Econ canoe launch and the 50-acre Lake Mills Park in Chuluota. The county also oversees various trail systems and greenways, such as the developing Cross Seminole Trail and the 14-mile Seminole Wekiva Trail. Traveling across the Cross Seminole Trail is the expansive Florida National Scenic Trail, which not only offers a great place to hike, walk and backpack, but also opportunities to camp, hunt, fish and learn through various interpretive facilities.

Seminole County is a popular spot for golfers of all abilities, as it hosts numerous well-maintained courses. Locally, the Oviedo-Winter Springs area hosts two outstanding golf courses. Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, features a newly renovated 18-hole course that stretches over 6,800 yards of pristine, gently rolling greens, outlined by stately oak trees. The club also offers nine clay tennis courts, a Jr. Olympic-sized pool, a modern fitness center, an on-site restaurant and opportunities for lessons and clinics.

The second area course is Oviedo’s semi-private Twin Rivers Golf Club, home of the UCF Men’s and Women’s Golf teams, a 6,600-yard, par-72 championship course that hails as one of the finest and most challenging courses in the Central Florida region. The club also houses a full-service golf shop, a newly renovated practice facility complete with a driving range, practice putting green and pitching area, and an on-site restaurant.
