Economic Development

Collectively the communities of Southeast Volusia stimulate diverse economic activity. Many business districts developed along the major highways: U.S. 1, A1A and State Road 44. All three communities are making a concerted effort to attract newcomers as they serve existing and expanding commercial and manufacturing interests. Local businesses also supply many of the parts, services and products necessary for other Florida enterprises.

Although the area’s major industry is tourism, other substantial contributors to the region’s economy include light manufacturing, fishing, agribusiness, real estate, construction, paint manufacturing, boat building, printing and banking. Small businesses that provide manufacturing and assembly of electronic products, aviation repair and reconstruction services continue to grow as new markets emerge in Florida. Marine-related and aviation companies are looking to relocate, and our area has provided opportunities.

There are desirable commercial and industrial sites located throughout Southeast Volusia County. All cities are working to improve the available opportunities with special emphasis placed on streamlining processes to accommodate businesses as they relocate. Both New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater offer a variety of incentives to businesses looking to expand or relocate to our area.
