South Lake’s natural attributes and central location make it a dream spot for sportsmen and sports fans alike.
South Lake is right in the middle of Florida sports action. It’s only a short drive to see professional athletes at their best. The NBA’s Orlando Magic, the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, MLB’s Rays or the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning are just a few of the local favorites.
Central Florida is also the hub for Major League Baseball’s spring training excitement. Being so close to the spring Grapefruit League action of the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers makes South Lake a baseball lover’s dream.
For those looking for local action, the Florida Collegiate League’s Clermont Mavericks give South Lake a team to call their own. Our community is also home to some of the best high school teams in the state. The hometown heroes at East Ridge and South Lake High Schools and the Montverde Academy feature great athletic programs and exciting competition.
The South Lake community enjoys a good celebration. Each year we host festivals that are full of fun and entertainment that also give back to worthy local causes. Pig on the Pond, one of Florida’s largest BBQ festivals, raises thousands of dollars annually for the Community Foundation of South Lake, which supports local charities. Each of our communities has a unique festival of its own— Mascotte’s Cinco de Mayo, Groveland’s Fourth of July celebration on Lake David, Light Up Clermont for the holidays, the Minneola Fall Festival and Montverde Days every November all feature the local charm and community spirit of South Lake County.
Our very own Lakeridge Winery celebrates the art of wine with a variety of crowd-pleasing events. Complimentary wine tastings and tours of the 127-acre hilltop winery are a daily treat. Each summer the Annual Harvest Festival brings great music and crafts, and also gives you the chance to roll up your pants for the grape crushing.
You can find a wide array of fine arts in South Lake. The Moonlight Players, Clermont’s local theater company, performs a variety of wonderful shows ranging from one- person features to full productions. You can also enjoy the works of local artists at area galleries or take in a performance of the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra. Many of these cultural treasures will find a new home at the planned Lake County Performing Arts Center.
If you’re still looking for more, nearby Orlando offers countless museums, galleries and nationally acclaimed concerts, shows and theatrical events.
