Overseen by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, Bradford County provides services to approximately 29,000 residents.

Fire protection in Bradford County includes six volunteer stations and one full-time station with approximately 105 volunteer personnel, and nine full-time and part-time employees. They are equipped with 26 vehicles and three staffed ambulances. EMS is a third service with 12 full-time paramedics. Police service to some areas is provided by the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

The Starke Police Department employs 20 full-time officers, nine part-time officers and seven support personnel. For two consecutive years, the department has placed third in the Florida "Police Chief's Challenge," which recognizes the efforts and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in such areas as education, training, and community awareness.
