Community Introduction

The Sun City Center Area is a vibrant and active part of Hillsborough County, located between Tampa and Sarasota with easy access to I-75. With more than 20,000 private homes and some 14 facilities providing a multitude of senior living options, Sun City Center is a lifestyle destination for those ages 55 and over, boasting golf courses, walkways, fitness centers, lush landscaping and friendly people. We have access to anything you could want: professional sports, performing arts, state-of-the-art medical care, lots of shimmering water, a receptive business climate and prime land for future growth and development.

And speaking of access, did you know our streets are open to golf carts? We even have a decorated golf cart parade to kick off the holiday season! You see, Sun City Center is not a retirement community. Our residents are too busy to retire. Between the award-winning golf, tennis, bocce ball and lawn bowling courses, there’s no reason to stay inside. But if you want to, there are always yoga classes, the computer club, mahjongg tournaments and various acting groups and choirs. In fact, there are over 200 clubs and organizations so you can indulge whatever hobby you have.

We have our own local library, and the larger regional library is only minutes away.

Every possible house of worship is represented in Sun City Center: Protestant, Catholic, Non-Denominational, Jehovah’s Witness, Jewish Synagogues and Eastern faiths are all welcome here.

Shopping is abundant. Sun City Center has two large grocery stores, a Super Walmart, Bealls department store and a Home Depot. Outlet malls featuring national chains are only a 30-minute drive away and International Mall in Tampa is available for those high-end purchases. For something truly unique, escape to St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota to dine at Tommy Bahama’s and purchase the one-of-a-kind styles of Oh My Gauze!

All of the top entertainers come to Tampa’s amphitheater, the Ruth Eckard Hall, the St. Pete Times Forum or the Straz Center. If you’re a sports fanatic, we have the Super Bowl-winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the World Series attending Tampa Bay Rays and the Stanley Cup-winning Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sun City Center is the home to more than eight golf courses, both private and public, and numerous club houses with community pools and fitness centers. To keep things active, the Community Association hosts the annual Fun Fest, an outdoor extravaganza featuring local clubs and organizations. Two annual festivals, the Ruskin Seafood Festival and the Manatee Arts Festival are held within 10 miles.

Top-rated and highly respected physicians, specialists and dentists are here supporting our very own South Bay Hospital. Accessible by golf cart, South Bay Hospital boasts a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department, Spine and Joint Center and an outpatient Rehabilitation Center. The hospital is central to other medical specialties including orthopedics, oncology, urology and cardiovascular services.

Your every need has been considered. We have our own Community Resource Officer from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stationed in town. Transportation is available for those who do not drive, and our Emergency Squad is staffed with hundreds of highly trained volunteers who respond quickly to any crisis. Support groups are here for everything from Alzheimer’s disease, Alcoholics Anonymous and the American Cancer Society to Lifepath Hospice, the Hearing Loss Association and Meals on Wheels.
