Health Central’s mission is to “improve the health of the community” by providing safe, quality healthcare services in an atmosphere of caring. Health Central’s commitment, attitude and actions reflect more than 50 years of service to its surrounding communities. The staff, made up of nearly 1,700 employees and more than 400 doctors, coupled with the most advanced equipment and technology, ensures that every patient receives the personalized care they deserve.

Health Central’s 440,000-square-foot, 171-bed Joint Commission-accredited hospital and comprehensive medical facility includes a Rehabilitation Center for inpatient and outpatient occupational, physical and speech therapy, a complete surgical center complete with seven operating rooms and an outpatient center for diagnostic testing.

Health Central owns an Emergency Transport and Paramedic Services fleet that provide vital services to its neighbors, as all 13 ambulances and one quick response vehicle are licensed and equipped with advanced life support capabilities. Along with striving to place ambulance patients in a bed immediately upon arrival, the Health Central Emergency Department has streamlined its walk-in registration and initial assessments to help patients’ treatment begin sooner.

For patients with less severe ailments, the newly renovated Emergency Fast Track consists of eight rooms and is the quicker option for emergencies requiring X-rays, stitches, splints or wound care.

Health Central Park, the 228-bed, short- and long-term care nursing and rehabilitation facility, is dedicated to providing professional, compassionate care that enriches and enhances life. Health Central’s ExpressCare is the urgent care walk-in clinic that treats ailments ranging from colds and broken bones to simple cuts and burns. The on-site, state-of-the-art Wound Healing Center and Hyperbaric Medicine Center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy combined with the latest in wound care techniques.

Women’s health just became more convenient with the addition of digital mammography to Health Central. With digital mammography, the breast image is captured using a special electronic X-ray detector, which provides crisp, immediate digital images. This newer technology results in shorter examination times, significantly improved patient comfort and more accurate diagnoses.

Health Central’s mission extends beyond exceeding expectations in healthcare: they are committed to enriching the community. Health Central University offers classes on topics ranging from nutrition and CPR certification to diabetes management and childbirth education at little or no cost. During the bi-annual community health fairs, Health Central provides attendees with free screenings to assess their health risks.

A milestone was achieved in 2009 when the Agency for Health Care Administration licensed Health Central with the ability to treat patients with cardiac and vascular problems by the latest in balloon, wire and stent technology. These techniques allow patients to recover faster and can be performed under local anesthesia rather than in the operating room under general anesthesia.

In 2010 Health Central satisfied the requirements to successfully add the STEMI Program to the campus. Patients experiencing ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a heart attack with a blocked coronary artery, will receive the fastest, most advanced care possible with the new Code STEMI program. Interventional cardiologists will now be available around-the-clock to begin the process when a heart attack patient is en route to the hospital.

With these additional capabilities and a staff of seasoned medical professionals, Health Central will continue to grow to meet the needs of the community. To learn more about Health Central, please visit www.healthcentral.org.

DR. P. PHILLIPS HOSPITAL

When Dr. Philip Phillips purchased his first orange grove on the shores of Sand Lake in 1905, he never imagined that a comprehensive healthcare facility would later emerge from that same site. Serving the residents and visitors of southwest Orlando since opening as Sand Lake Hospital in 1985, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, a part of Orlando Health, was renamed in honor of the citrus pioneer in 2007.

In November 2008, a new, five-story tower doubled the size of the hospital. The addition of nearly 330,000 square feet has enabled Dr. Phillips Hospital to expand many services including more surgical suites, a new outpatient infusion area, larger lab and pharmacy areas and enhanced cardiac catheterization suites. The progressive and intensive care nursing units have also doubled in size. The main entrance to Dr. Phillips Hospital is now located in the new tower, and a pedestrian bridge connects the parking deck to the new registration area on the second floor.

The Dr. Phillips Hospital Emergency Department (ED) provides care 24 hours daily and is the busiest ED in the metro Orlando area. In addition to emergency care, the ED offers an accredited Chest Pain Program. Diagnostic equipment, such as the 64-slice cardiac CT scanner, helps identify the causes of chest pain and can rule out whether it is heart disease or not. The Dr. Phillips Hospital ED also offers a Stroke Center. Early diagnosis and treatment (within three hours of the onset of symptoms) at a certified stroke center can significantly improve chances of recovery. Stroke protocols are in place, and all patients with symptoms suspicious for stroke are immediately evaluated and stabilized by the stroke team.

With eight new operating rooms, Dr. Phillips Hospital offers advanced inpatient and same-day surgical services, as well as minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The daVinci system uses state-of-the-art robotic technology to virtually extend the surgeon’s eyes and hands into the surgical field. This means reduced complications and shorter hospital stays and recovery time.

Diagnostic equipment, such as mammography, ultrasound, CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine are housed in the newly renovated imaging area. In addition to larger, more comfortable surroundings, new advancements such as digital imaging are also now available. For years, X-rays were printed on photographic film and darkrooms were necessary to process the images. Now, with this new technology, Dr. Phillips Hospital is filmless (which means no more darkrooms or film storage). Your doctor can review your images on a computer from his office (or any Orlando Health hospital), often just minutes after the examination was performed. You can also receive your images on a small compact disk (CD) rather than large, cumbersome films.

Later this year, Dr. Phillips Hospital celebrates 25 years of caring for the Southwest Orlando community. With comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services and a wide array of diagnostic imaging tools, we are here when it matters most.
