A Classic Experience
Cultural opportunities abound in the area. Numerous museums and a wealth of theatrical and musical entertainment can be found in Lakeland, Tampa and St. Petersburg.
The Zephyrhills community is growing, and a major focus is on bringing the arts to Zephyrhills. The first Zephyrhills Chalk Art Festival was held this year and will continue to be an annual event. Over 75 artists participated, turning the streets of downtown Zephyrhills into their canvas.
Jazz musicians and Blues artists entertained the crowd as they intermingled with professional and student artists. Children of all ages could try out their artistic abilities in the Child’s Studio.
Zephyrhills joins a 400-year-old artistic tradition dating back to 16th-century Italy. This form of art was first practiced by traveling street painters referred to as “madonnari,” named for the habit of painting likenesses of the Madonna. The art form had enjoyed a major revival in the past 30 years with professional chalk artists traveling worldwide from festival to festival throughout Europe and the United States.
Zephyrhills would like to see a performing arts center added to the plans of continued growth in the area.
