An abundance of water, fertile lands and an extended growing season make Mitchell County a prime location for farming and agri-business.
Local farmers produce a variety of crops including cotton, peanuts, pecans, sweet corn, soybeans, vegetables, livestock and broilers.
Camilla and Mitchell County are fortunate regarding the availability of health care services. Mitchell County Hospital has been serving the citizens of Camilla since 1949. Recent renovations and additions have upgraded the facility with the latest in medical equipment.
In 1990, the hospital and two nursing homes, Mitchell Convalescent Home and Pelham Parkway Nursing Home, became affiliated with John D. Archbold Hospital in Thomasville. This affiliation allows our small hometown hospital to participate in an efficient, multi-hospital system that delivers quality health care at the lowest possible cost.
Hospital services include inpatient services, a 24-hour emergency room, full ancillary services in laboratory, radiology and pharmacy, state of the art equipment including a computerized tomography unit, MRI services and ultrasound. Rehabilitation services for physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology are available.
Camilla offers a one-stop-shop for job services through the Workforce Development Center. Services include GED and literacy classes, welfare-to-work client services and coordination, job readiness assessments, job readiness, development and placement and job coaching. The Workforce Development Center's goal is to assist all citizens in preparing for, finding and excelling in employment.
