Roswell Railroad

In the past century, Dunwoody has transformed from a small-town farming community, to a leader in commercial development – we pride ourselves on progress yet still adhere to our core values and roots.

From 1881 until 1921, the Roswell Railroad ran through town between Roswell and Chamblee twice a day. Dunwoody Depot was in the heart of Dunwoody and with the railroad came commerce, including general stores, a livery stable, feed and fertilizer store, and a pharmacy.

With the creation of new subdivisions in the 1950s and 60s, and the completion of I-285 in 1970, Dunwoody became a very accessible area. These new additions soon led to further commercial developments, like Perimeter Mall in1971. Home to over 46,267 residents, we have long been considered a city, but actually incorporated in 2009. Dunwoody is fortunate to enjoy a location and economy that is an attractive destination for businesses and families.

Dunwoody works hard to preserve its history and is well-known for its Cheek-Spruill Farmhouse and Donaldson-Bannister Farm. We have many historic homes including, Swancy Farmhouse, W.N. Ware House, Railroad Section Gang House and Cassidy House. Check out the Dunwoody Chamber of Commerce’s website for more information about our historic locations!
