Madison County Tourism and Recreation

The Madison County Recreation Department, located on Highway 98 west of Danielsville, is a 30-acre site which consists of five lighted tennis courts, two playgrounds, a picnic pavilion which seats 100, five lighted ball fields and a 1/4 mile jogging track. Other ball fields, picnic areas and pavilions are located in the Sanford and Diamond Hill Communities, as well as Comer and Colbert. Comer boasts an asphalt area for tennis and basketball and a children’s playground.

Watson Mill Bridge State Park, located on the South Fork of the Broad River, attracts many visitors who come to the historic site to enjoy fishing, boating and camping, as well as special activities. Other state parks in the area are located in nearby Franklin, Hart and Elbert Counties.

Sunrise Golf Course near Colbert recently updated its nine-hole course, and Eagle Greens’ Sandy Creek Golf Course, just across the line in Jackson County, has excellent facilities. Madison County’s picturesque beauty and winding trails makes it a favorite for horseback riders. The area’s beautiful wooded areas and rivers offer fine sport to hunters and fishermen, and the Broad River is a favorite area for canoeing.
