Mitchell County is located in the southwest corner of Georgia near the Florida and Alabama state line and encompasses 513 square miles. U.S. Highway 19 divides the county and provides quick access to Interstate 75 and I-10. The Flint River, known to the Indians as Thronatesska (place where flint is gathered), acts as the border between Mitchell and Baker Counties. The Gulf and Ohio railway runs parallel to U.S. Highway 19, supplying well-located transportation for any industrys products and materials. The Camilla-Mitchell County Airport has a 4,000 feet lighted runway for private planes and corporate jets, and local commuter services are also available out of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport in Albany. Throughout Mitchell County, the Mitchell County Transit offers citizens transportation options including mini-buses and charter buses. With various events throughout the year and many charming businesses to visit, getting around Mitchell County is never a problem.
