Education

Stephens County School System has over 4,100 students in six schools. The new state-of-the-art high school has a current enrollment of 1,140, is the first LEED certified building in Stephens County and is one of only 10 LEED certified high schools in the state. All schools in Stephens County are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and two schools have been honored by being named Georgia Oglethorpe Award winners for organizational excellence. Seventy-eight percent of the staff have advanced degrees and 100 percent are highly qualified, demonstrating competency in the core academic areas in which they teach. The Mountain Education Charter High School also serves students in Stephens County, offering missed credit for those enrolled in Stephens County High School or a non-traditional route for those students needing individualized, self-paced evening classes.

The North Georgia Technical College’s Currahee Campus provides invaluable training in employability skills and hands-on experience with high-tech equipment. In 2013, the campus will expand with the addition of a Healthcare Wing. Toccoa Falls College, consistently named best regional college by Princeton Review, is a four-year fully accredited Christian college with approximately 1,000 students.
