Pocatello and Chubbuck both operate under an elected mayor as well as an elected city council. From actively pursuing grants for area improvements to investing available resources in current and proposed projects, there is guidance and cooperation between our cities and the county for economic development within this steadily growing community.

With combined police forces of more than 100 and fire departments of nearly as many stationed throughout the communities, the area has the ability to respond quickly to almost any kind of emergency situation. The Pocatello Fire Department maintains a well-trained ambulance service and houses the Region III Hazardous Materials Response Team. Both police departments have an active DARE program to deter youth from the use of drugs, and Pocatello also has the GREAT program, which personally empowers youth to avoid violence and criminal activity. Between the Volunteers in Police Service, Neighborhood Watch and McGruff House programs alone, the Pocatello Police Department has nearly 1,200 national award-winning municipally sponsored volunteers.

Many of the public meetings held by the cities are televised live and taped on cable channel 11 for viewing later. Some are signed for deaf viewers.

The County is run by an elected three member Commission.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Department covers a large area surrounding Pocatello and Chubbuck. It houses a large jail and cooperates with local officers in a number of coordinated efforts to combat crime.
