After exploring downtown and enjoying a fulfilling meal, embracing Aurora’s culture is always rewarding. There’s no place better to start than at the Paramount Arts Centre. The Paramount is a lovingly restored Art Deco movie palace and historic landmark celebrating 75 years as the Fox Valley’s source for numerous performances and events throughout the year. Let the ambiance of live entertainment by your favorite national acts surround you; watch the drama unfold at a play; or revel in the spectacle of Vegas-style productions, touring Broadway musicals and other special events that will bring you back time and again.

Take a trip to Water Street in downtown, and you’ll enjoy original plays, murder mysteries and comedies by a local theater group based at The Riverfront Playhouse. But that’s not all; you’ll thoroughly delight in the Borealis Theater Company in a cozy theater at Aurora University. BTC offers critically acclaimed actors who stage comedies and tragedies throughout the year, including a summer Shakespeare festival.

The fine art aficionado in you will appreciate the efforts of the Aurora Public Art Commission. The Commission hosts innovative visual arts exhibits including the “Winter Garden of Youth Art,” and the Swimming Stones; a kinetic water sculpture that combines art with the laws of physics, enabling giant stones to rock, spin and swivel on a cushion of water. The Aurora Art League organizes exhibits displaying the full spectrum of creative works at venues throughout the area such as Gallery 44, a new, cooperative gallery of area works including watercolors, pen and ink sketches, and mixed media pieces.

Other interesting cultural activities to broaden your mind include the FermiLab Arts Series of music, dance, theater, and lectures on the arts, sciences and culture at Ramsey Auditorium.

The renowned Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra performs major works at the Paramount Arts Centre and local performers such as Acoustic Alternatives, the Aurora American Legion Band and Blues on the Fox, keep fans tuned in for more.

When you want to get out for some Aurora nightlife, you won’t be disappointed. You and your family are just minutes away from participating in the world’s largest indoor participation sport — bowling. You can set ‘em up and knock ‘em down at AMF Valley Lanes or Parkside Lanes. Join a league; they have them for all ages and skill levels, or roll glow-in-the-dark balls during late night bowling. Right next door to Parkside Lanes you can join the kids in a smooth glide around the floor at Aurora Arena Skate Center. When it’s time for a movie, look no further than the silver screens at Countryside Cinemas and Tinseltown USA Movie Theater.

But why stop at just a movie? To top off an evening of fun, try lady luck at The Hollywood Casino-Aurora. The area’s premium riverboat and entertainment complex offers the most exciting gaming for everyone from the leisurely to the serious gamer. Its four-story pavilion has some of the city’s finest restaurants and an astounding collection of props from favorite films, movie-star motorcycles and silver-screen keepsakes.
