Batavia Pride

There is a community spirit that runs through this picturesque river town. It’s evident when hundreds of Batavians head to the high school on a Friday night in September for the annual corn boil. It was apparent when thousands made the trip to the Northern Illinois University’s football stadium to cheer on the Battlin’ Bulldogs in their quest to become 2013 state football champions.

Batavia Pride also extends to students involved in music and theater. The Batavia Fine Arts Centre is always filled to capacity for music and theater performances because of the extraordinary talent at the Grammy-nominated high school. Supporting the efforts of the city’s young people is essential to the success of the community.

This is a community that rallies when needed. Perhaps the greatest community endeavor has been the building of Batavia’s Riverwalk. A true community effort, it was built by Batavians of all ages, from the tiniest Cub Scout to the oldest senior citizen. Thousands volunteered, building the downtown park, brick by brick. It is a testament to what a community can accomplish, working together.
