Serving the Bloomingdale community for 50 years, the Bloomingdale Park District offers 160-plus acres of open space; 2,400-plus programs; and is fun, safe, affordable and convenient.

Residents find year-round leisure opportunities including multiple, relaxing nature trails including:

• A 3/4-mile walk at the 25-acre Westlake Park, 307 Edgewater Dr.

• A 1.1-mile walking path and 22 acres of wetlands at the 44-acre Springfield Park, 269 Springfield Dr.

• A 1/3-mile pond walk at the 9.5-acre Leslie Park, 170 Leslie Ln.

• A scenic, 1/4-mile lake walk at the 15.5-acre Lakeview Park, 240 Broker Rd.

The Oasis Water Park

The Oasis Water Park features three different attractions: ‘Cuda Cove, Mango Bay and Otter Island. ‘Cuda Cove is an eight-lane competitive pool with a drop slide and one- and three-meter diving boards; Mango Bay is a zero-depth entry leisure pool with geysers, spilling buckets, sprayers and water slides; and Otter Island is an interactive water playground.

Johnston Recreation Center

The park district’s primary recreational facility is the Johnston Recreation Center, adjacent to Circle Park and Westfield Middle School. The two-level building offers 21,000-plus square feet of programming space that includes a high school regulation basketball court (in addition to three smaller courts), gymnastics center, dance studio, aerobic studio, junior gym, kitchen, three preschool rooms and three additional programming rooms.

Bloomingdale Park District Museum

The museum is the oldest building in Bloomingdale, originally built in 1849 as the First Baptist Church of Christ. Visitors today can view the original ceiling, knotty pine floor, and some of the original glass pane windows. Fine arts and cultural exhibits are presented throughout the year in two art galleries. The historic site also is available for private rental.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Annual special events include Mom/Son and Dad/Daughter dances in February; the Bunny Bash Easter event, held every March/April; the Kite Fly and Touch-a-Truck events in May, summer concerts June through August; the Sunrise Shuffle 5K in September; Fall Fest in October; and the Old Town Festival of Lights, held every December in Old Towne Bloomingdale.

The Festival of Lights is a joint venture between the park district and the Village of Bloomingdale. This relatively new holiday tradition not only sparks a sense of pride and service in Bloomingdale, but also attracts visitors from surrounding towns, benefiting local business. Pedestrians and motorists alike are treated to a sparking display of holiday lights and sights. In addition to visually-stunning displays, the park district also conducts on-site programming and entertainment activities in the park and at the museum that are sure to delight the masses.
