Business and Industry

Crete has access to an integrated transportation network. Illinois Route 1, Dixie Highway, runs north and south through our historic downtown business district. The Calumet Expressway (394) runs north and south to the east of the village. Both roads will take you to downtown Chicago; one route is scenic and the other is a quick path to downtown Chicago.

Other major thoroughfares are just minutes away: US Route 30, I-57, I-80, I-94, I-294 and US Route 41. Both of Chicago’s major airports, O’Hare International and Chicago Midway International are within an hour’s drive. Metra commuter trains operate daily to Chicago from stations within five minutes from the village. There are local Amtrak stations nearby as well.

With our residential base firmly established, we now have turned our attention to attracting commercial and industrial development. Understanding the unique needs of such development, the village has established three Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts and identified potential development areas. Years of conservative investment in our infrastructure now provides, utilities to potential development areas; annexation is always a viable option should the need occur.

To be a leader in the information and technology age, you have to stay on top of the latest in high-speed communications, anticipate upcoming developments and be flexible enough to rapidly change to meet any need. With the rapid growth of the Internet during the last decade, communities around the country had to keep up or be left behind. Crete recognized the immense value of e-commerce and I-business and has maintained an active approach to new technologies. In our businesses, our schools, our government and our homes, we have adapted readily to the changing world around us and now, like never before.
