Arts and Entertainment

Residents of Dixon never have to search for things to do. The Dixon City Band performs outdoor concerts in the parks throughout the summer months, and the Community Concerts subscription series offers a variety of fine orchestral, vocal, big band, brass band and classical music.

The Next Picture Show Fine Arts Center and Gallery is a working studio for professional artists as well as a gallery featuring exhibits by local, regional and national artists. On the second Saturday of each month, downtown Dixon venues host “Second Saturdays Art Happenings” featuring a variety of visual and musical happenings by area artists.

The Lee County Senior Center is owned by the Lee County Council on Aging. Located in the “Old Dixon Post Office” building on Galena Avenue, the facility has daily activities, area bus services, daily provision of meals and other programming for area seniors.

Dixon is a one- to two-hour drive from the cultural amenities of Chicago. The nearby Metro Center in Rockford, the iWireless center in the Quad Cities and Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center in DeKalb host scores of performances and sporting events, and are all within one hour of Dixon.
