Parks and Recreation

From challenging golf courses and bike trails to the finest in fishing, recreational opportunities in Dixon abound.

The Rock River is one of the area’s most valuable recreational and scenic assets. There is abundant fishing, pleasure boating, water skiing and other leisure activities all along the river.

The Dixon Park District has more parkland per capita than any city in Illinois, and its holdings include the magnificent 240-acre Lowell Park and 1000-acre Meadows Park. Lowell Park (where President Ronald Reagan worked in his youth as a lifeguard) has boat launch facilities as well as an extensive nature center. The Meadows has soccer fields, a golf training facility, equestrian trails, mountain biking trails and roller hockey facilities. Seven Illinois State Parks and natural areas are within a 30-minute drive of Dixon.

The Dixon Family YMCA (established in 1872) includes complete weight and fitness rooms, an indoor pool and gym, classes and programming for all ages.
