Location and Transportation

Dixon is located in the heart of northwest Illinois, just 100 miles west of downtown Chicago. Rockford and the “Quad Cities” of Rock Island, Moline, East Moline and Silvis, Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, lie just to the northeast and southwest of Dixon.

Many individuals and companies for which transportation is essential have chosen to reside in Dixon due to its strategic location. Illinois Interstate 88 runs east and west through Dixon, connecting it to important Chicagoland and Quad City markets. Illinois State Route 2, located along the beautiful Rock River, connects Dixon to Rockford and the Quad Cities. U.S. Route 52 runs through Dixon from the northwest to the southeast. Illinois Route 26 connects Dixon to Interstate 80 and to many communities to the north. Illinois Route 38 runs east-west through Dixon and U.S. Route 30 is only six miles south of Dixon.

The Union Pacific Railroad runs through Dixon’s southern edge with its two main east and west lines. Union Pacific’s 1200-acre Global III Intermodal Facility is located 22.5 miles east of Dixon on Interstate 88. Air travelers can choose from Dixon’s own airport (Charles R. Walgreen Field), Chicago-Rockford International Airport (only 40 minutes away), the Quad City International Airport (one hour away), and Chicago O’Hare or Midway (less than two hours away).
