Elk Grove Village Parks and Recreation

There are many recreation opportunities in the village, and the Elk Grove Park District offers some of the best around.

Here is a sampler of some of the fun going on in the community, geared toward a broad range of different age groups:

Pirate's Cove Children's Theme Park—Fun For The Little Ones

This terrific theme park was built 25 years ago and has stood the test of time for families in the area with younger children. Designed specifically for those ages two through nine, Pirate's Cove is open from June through August each year and features a variety of activities and rides to enjoy.

Some fun options include The Smugglers Crag, which is a 20-foot climbing wall geared toward a range of skill levels, and The Castle of Camelot, which is a maze of tunnels and tubes for children to climb through. Train rides, paddle boats and a brand new giant slide are also favorites in the park.

There is an authentic pirate ship from the 18th century to explore, as well as a recently restored 1950s kiddie carousel that features 22 hand-painted horses.

A concession area on the grounds offers guests the opportunity to grab a quick snack or a lunch if they want to stay for the day.

Audubon Skate Park—A Spot For Children & Teens

This skate park offers children and teenagers an indoor place to skate. Lessons, summer camp and birthday rentals are available, and the venue hosts periodic events as well. Skateboards and in-line skates are both permitted.

Rainbow Falls Waterpark—Family Fun

This waterpark has a tropical theme, and provides a variety of areas for all ages to relax and enjoy some fun in the sun.

The leisure pool area is called Sunfish Bay and there is also a vortex pool there titled the Barracuda Bowl. “Lily pads” abound and diving boards and slides are featured as well—including the amazing “Calypso Twist,” which has four twisting body slides that empty out into the water.

Children will love the funhouse, titled Pelican's Peak, which rises three stories and has yet another slide as a part of its structure. This area of the park also features a “river” where one can float, play or just relax on plastic tubes. The younger attendees will find their own haven in the Coqui Frog Pond, which was designed just for tots.

Families can break for a meal together at the Hide-Away Café, which is located on the premises, or opt for a picnic lunch. There are two sections of the waterpark that are set up for a little lunching and lounging besides the restaurant—Mango Grove and Coconut Grove.

Fox Run Golf Links—Golf Course & Driving Range

Although recreation opportunities for youth are plentiful in the area, the Elk Grove Park District also has programs to offer its adult residents.

One such example is Fox Run Golf Links, which has a 124-acre 18-hole course and driving range. The facilities include a Pro Shop, event room and The Fox Den bar and grill which is open for lunch, dinner—and breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday during the season. Private lessons and golf classes are available, and while the course is generally geared toward adults, they have a thriving junior golf program as well.

The Elk Grove Park District has created a well-balanced recreation program that offers people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy themselves and participate in a variety of activities. In addition to the offerings listed, there are also facilities that are geared toward preschool-age children and seniors, such as the Al Hattendorf Center, and many others that provide recreational programming to the community. Pavilion Fitness Centre

The Elk Grove Park District operates a state-of-the-art fitness center which is located at 1000 Wellington Avenue. Some of the offerings there include personal training, exercise classes and massage therapy. The facility first opened its doors in 1994 and has grown over the years, forming partnerships with cardiac rehab and physical therapy programs in addition to the many fitness/wellness services it provides.
