Frankfort is bursting with activity all year long. Shoppers revel in the retail opportunities within the Village. In addition to the extensive Prairie Crossing Shopping Center, Frankfort Crossings, The Vineyards, Hickory Creek Market Place and The Town Center is Frankfort’s old-time Downtown, an area distinguished by its medley of specialty shops. Eager patrons and devoted collectors peruse through unique home décor, gift items, distinct glass designs, historic artwork and one-of-a-kind antiques in the district and its newly developed extension, known as The Square. Downtown is also the site of the popular Frankfort Country Market, open every Sunday, May through September, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Village has invested a lot in the reenergizing of its Historic Downtown Business District through an introduction of contemporary dining establishments, shops, professional services and cultural ventures.

The Downtown District is much more than just a great outlet for shopping and dining. This area is home to the new KidsWork Children’s Museum, and is also the place to be for a number of terrific community-wide events. Held on Sunday evenings in the downtown Breidert Green Community Park, Concerts on the Green is an exciting summer series featuring live musical entertainment spanning all genres. The same locality is home to Winter on the Green (January-February), with highlights including a chili cook-off, ice sculpture demonstrations and winter games.

Labor Day weekend welcomes the much-anticipated Frankfort Fall Festival, a Chamber-sponsored event that has been around for four decades. Since its inception, the festival has grown to become one of the top fine arts and crafts shows in the Midwest and beyond. The award-winning event welcomes approximately 300 artisans from across the U.S. An entertainment tent, carnival rides and games, food vendors and a parade are also part of the package.

The holiday season is vibrant in Frankfort, with a month-long celebration happening in the Downtown area. The Chriskindl Weekend celebrates both the German Christmas traditions and the Village’s German heritage. Visits with St. Nicholas, the sounds of local choral groups, along with the Children’s Lantern Parade, the Annual Tree Lighting, the Annual Housewalk and Merchant Open House, and Midnight Madness are part of the celebration as well.

A variety of further annual events continue throughout the year, including Cruisin’ Frankfort in summer, the Fourth of July celebration and a number of Chamber-operated business events such as the Business Expo, the Annual Golf Outing and monthly networking meetings.
