The Frankfort Park District is a vital source of recreation in the community, offering an extensive array of activities and events that span the calendar year. The district oversees nearly two-dozen parks and facilities throughout the Village. Its main facility is Founder’s Center, which is home to the majority of the park district’s programs. Among the offerings are youth and adult arts and crafts, adult fitness classes, youth athletics, cooking classes, teen dances and a number of special events.

The Frankfort Park District’s largest park site is Commissioners Park, a 60-acre space featuring the community-designed Fort Frankfort playground, a one-mile walking path, tennis courts, a skate park, disc golf, ball fields, soccer fields and a sledding hill. Commissioners Park is also the proud home of the Splash Park and the award-winning Bark Park.

Updates to the organization’s parks are continuing, with the construction at Main Park completed in the fall of 2008. Open to the public as of January 1, 2009, Main Park now features lighted tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a radio control track, a new picnic shelter, three disc golf holes, updated playground equipment and more.

A few of the Frankfort Park District’s parks provide easy access to the great Old Plank Road Trail, a 21-mile recreation and nature trail that stretches from Park Forest to Joliet. More than two miles of the trail can be discovered in the Frankfort area, traveling between Pfeiffer Road and 108th Avenue.

The recreation doesn’t end here, as the area is home to several fantastic golf courses. Golfers of all abilities, from novice to advanced, can choose from such popular area courses as Prestwick Country Club, Green Garden Country Club and Tinley Park’s Odyssey Country Club.
