Welcome to Homer Glen

Characterized topographically by open, green spaces, sprawling nature preserves and picture-perfect farmland, the present-day Village of Homer Glen still resembles the Homer Glen of the past. Settled in 1836, the community’s distinct character has been successfully preserved in the face of development, thanks in large part to the efforts of its active citizens and legislative officials who campaigned for incorporation. With this designation, received on April 17, 2001, Homer Glen residents earned the rights to control the area’s future. Today, the Village continues to treasure its traditional values of community, preparing itself for what lies ahead.

Homer Glen is currently home to over 30,000 permanent residents, making it Will County’s fourth-largest municipality. That statistic is expected to rise even highter in 2011. And by 2030, that number is projected to reach more than 47,000. Stimulating this escalation in population is the area’s strategic locale within one of Illinois’ fastest-growing counties, near several airports and commuter rail stations, and the newly completed Interstate 355 South extension – not to mention its accessibility to top-notch education, healthcare, shopping and entertainment.

The community’s clear progress is guided by its fundamental principles, ultimately assuring sensible, planned growth and development, financial responsibility and environmental investment. Homer Glen has received a number of grants empowering planning and research for the restoration and preservation of its natural areas, which include creeks, two square miles of the Will County Forest Preserve and a host of native plant life and wildlife.

Economic interests and a superior standard of living are finely balanced here, due to the effective collaboration between Homer Glen’s governing body and its citizens. New, high-quality business developments are springing up throughout the Village’s high-traffic sectors so as not to jeopardize the ambiance of the community’s residential areas.

Typified by desirable open spaces, Homer Glen’s neighborhoods have remained remarkable in quality and affable in nature – characteristics that current residents and prospective buyers look for in superb suburban living.

In order to preserve this ultimate way of life, the Village has embraced its thorough Comprehensive Plan. Adopted in early 2005 and most recently amended on June 12, 2007, this plan stands as Homer Glen’s public policy regarding its ensuing future development. As the community continues to expand both residentially and commercially, Village officials and residents strive to conserve the area’s long-established spirit and overall environment.

Maintaining a close-knit community and cultivating a solid, balanced foundation for generations to come, Homer Glen has certainly lived up to its vision: “Community and Nature…In Harmony.”
