Parks and Recreation

Local municipalities maintain numerous municipal parks, as does Homer Township, which oversees seven sites throughout the area. Township residents utilize athletic fields, picnic areas, playground equipment, ball fields, walking paths, fishing holes and plenty of open space at area parks. In addition, the Forest Preserve of Will County offers sites in the township, including Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, Messenger Marsh Preserve and the Spring Creek Greenway.

Homer Township residents also have ready access to the parks, facilities and programming of the Lockport Township Park District. This outstanding recreational resource is equipped with more than 50 parks and facilities, and presents hundreds of programs for participants of all ages.

The park district’s Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club, located nearby in Crest Hill, offers a challenging experience for golfers of all skill levels. Homer Glen houses two exceptional courses, Old Oak Country Club and Woodbine Golf and Banquets. Local golfers also utilize the greens at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport and plenty of other closely surrounding courses.
