A tradition of education excellence prospers in Hyde Park. With 17 public, private and parochial schools, a wide variety of choices is available to students of all ages.

The crown jewel of Hyde Park's education scene is the prestigious University of Chicago, from which eighty-five recipients of the Nobel Prize have graduated. Over 5,000 undergraduate and nearly 10,500 graduate students currently attend the 211-acre university. The university offers 50 majors and 29 minors and has over 154,200 alumni worldwide.

Along with its role as a major university in the neighborhood, the University of Chicago also works to educate young children. The Laboratory Schools were founded in 1896 by John Dewey and they educate approximately 1,700 students each year. The University of Chicago also has four Charter School campuses.

Other education choices, like the Murray Language Academy magnet school and the Akiba-Schechter Jewish school, are available to residents as well.
