The Greater Joliet Area YMCA has been a mainstay in our community for more than eight decades. Today, the YMCA is one of the area’s largest nonprofit organizations. Through its three full-service branches (two in Joliet and one in Plainfield) it’s Central City “Y without Walls,” and Morris Family YMCA programs, the Y is serving thousands of Will County residents each and every day.
The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits, committed to strengthening communities through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Families turn to the Y for much-needed before- school and after-school programs, summer camps, youth sports, group fitness classes and swim lessons, among others. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health, and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. But, most importantly, its doors are open to everyone, regardless of age, income or background. At the Y, no one is ever turned away due to the inability to pay.
The Y believes that all kids have potential and should have the opportunity to discover who they are, express themselves and be nurtured in all their possibility. To meet the needs of area families, the Y collaborates with the Joliet, Plainfield, Minooka, Troy and Morris school districts to provide safe and affordable before- and after-school programs. The Y also gives kids from all walks of life the opportunity to learn how to swim, play group sports and attend summer camp, all while learning the importance of teamwork and developing life skills and friw endships that will last a lifetime.
Dedicated to improving the nation’s health and well-being, the Y believes that everyone has the desire to be well and that well-being is best cultivated by providing supportive relationships and environments. The Y provides a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all ages to become healthier and stay well in spirit, mind and body.
The Y incorporates its core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into all of its programming. The Y believes it is its social responsibility to listen to, and respond to, our community’s most critical needs. Through its Central City “Y Without Walls” programs, each year more than 2,000 students in Joliet have the opportunity to learn how to swim, play basketball and cheerlead, attend after-school programs and go to summer camp at little or no cost. It is through these types of collaborations, and with the support of generous grants and contributions, that the Y is making a difference in our community each and every day.
