Manteno is jam-packed with recreational opportunities for every interest. The community has several park areas, notably Heritage Park, which stands as the village’s largest public park. Heritage Park features two lighted ball fields and is the home of a number of youth athletic associations.


Manteno is home to the Leo T. Hassett Community Center, a multi-purpose facility serving as the center of local public meetings and social events. The Center offers a variety of programs designed to accommodate residents from youth to senior.

The Village of Manteno has joined forces with the Bourbonnais Township Park District and Manteno Township to provide residents with an array of recreational programs ranging from arts and dance courses to sports leagues for all ages.

The Manteno Sportsmen’s Club is comprised of 55 acres, which includes the stocked 38-acre Lake Manteno. Spend the day relaxing on the beach, or jump in the water and enjoy great activities such as swimming, fishing and boating. Camping is available on the northern portion of the lake. The club also hosts a number of summer outdoor events and is equipped with a lounge and restaurant.

And for those looking to while away on the greens, the Manteno Golf Club and Learning Center is a prime choice. The club has been a favorite of golfers of all skill levels since 1972. The 18-hole course offers four sets of tees, rolling bent grass greens and well-maintained bluegrass fairways, as well as six water hazards on several holes. In addition to the course is a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse, along with the availability of PGA Professional instruction on the Learning Center range.

The Kankakee River State Park is not far from the community, offering many activities for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy hiking, biking and cross-country skiing, along with horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, hunting and picnicking. Plan a filled weekend with nature, and stay in one of the park’s cabins or tents. The Chippewa Campground has electricity and vehicle access.
