Education is a significant aspect of community life in Manteno. The village is served by Manteno Community Unit School District #5, a prekindergarten through 12th grade public school system comprised of four schools. The schools, which are among the best in the general area, house more than 2,200 students in total.

Manteno Primary School, located at 251 N. Maple, provides kindergarten and first grade educations and is also home to an excellent early childhood program. The school was initially utilized as the high school and has been instituted for its current use in order to accommodate the growing student population in the community.

Manteno Elementary School is a second through fifth grade facility, situated at 555 W. Cook Street, and Manteno Middle School offers an outstanding learning environment for those enrolled in sixth through eighth grades. The school is located at 250 N. Poplar Avenue and offers everything from modern classrooms equipped with access to the Internet to a variety of extracurricular activities and programs.

Home of the Panthers, Manteno High School can be found at 443 N. Maple. Students are offered a number of different academic classes; several athletic teams competing in the River Valley Conference; and a number of special programs and clubs such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, the School Newspaper and FFA—among many others.

Manteno is also home to Indian Oaks Academy, a residential facility offering a variety of treatment programs for female and male adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. Part of the Nexus organization, Indian Oaks Academy successfully integrates on-site education with certain treatment programs for its 100-plus adolescent population.

Upon graduation from high school, students wishing to take the path to higher learning are afforded two local institutions, along with a number of others located in the Chicago area and further parts of the state.

Kankakee Community College (KCC) is an exceptional starting point for many students. The two-year college offers associate degrees in Applied Science, along with a variety of certificates of completion. A number of non-degree courses are available, which include workforce development and remedial development options. More than 6,000 enroll in credit and continuing education courses annually at KCC, with another 5,000 registered for non-credit programs.

Nearby University Park is home to Governors State University (GSU), a superb institution reachable within 20 minutes of Manteno. GSU stands as one of the fastest growing public universities in Illinois. The university is an upper-division institution offering 49 undergraduate and graduate degrees, along with 22 certificate programs.
