McHenry County Education

McHenry County believes that quality of life depends largely on the quality of the schools the children attend. McHenry County schools consistently score higher on the state average on IGAP tests, exceeding in reading, math, writing, science and social sciences.

McHenry County consists of 18 school districts containing 79 public schools, one special education district, 20 parochial schools, and 59 daycare centers/preschools. The district schools offer various programs such as business-educated partnerships, accelerated courses, and work experience, to create a positive learning environment.

McHenry County also encourages student participation in a variety of clubs, special interest groups and sports.

The McHenry County Regional Office of Education acts as a supporter for education by providing positive leadership, performing regulatory functions directed by the Illinois School Code and the Illinois State Board of Education, coordinating and delivering state and local services, and disseminating information for educators, school districts, and the community.
